The walkway to Devil’s Throat (Garganta del Diablo) is generally open, but it is occasionally closed due to weather conditions or maintenance work. The most common reason for closure is heavy rainfall, which can cause flooding and make the walkways slippery and unsafe. Additionally, high water levels in the Iguazú River can sometimes impact access to certain viewing platforms near the falls.
For example, in recent years, the walkway was temporarily closed during the 2020–2021 rainy season, when the falls experienced some of the highest water levels in decades. These closures are often short-term, lasting only a few days or weeks, until conditions stabilize. It’s always a good idea to check the park’s official website or consult local staff for any updates before your visit, especially during the rainy season from November to March. Despite occasional closures, the Argentine side of the park is well-maintained and offers many other stunning views of the falls, so there is still plenty to enjoy even if the Devil’s Throat is inaccessible for a short time.
Of course, at this moment the trail is open and it´s one of the highlights of the national park on the argentinian side.
