My Best Trip: I`ve enjoyed Iguazu Falls in one day, from my hotel in Buenos Aires!

You have probably heard that the Iguazu Falls are one of the most impressive natural places on the planet. What many people don’t know is that even if you only have one day available, the experience can still be fascinating when traveling from Buenos Aires.

So I decided to try it myself, and it turned out to be an intense and truly memorable experience.

Early Departure from My Hotel in Buenos Aires

My day started very early in the city of Buenos Aires. It was still dark when the driver arrived to pick me up at the hotel where I was staying. The streets were quiet, very different from the usual rhythm of the city. It is actually a wonderful opportunit y to enjoy a very different side of Buenos Aires.

About 25 minutes later we arrived at Aeroparque Jorge Newbery, the domestic airport located right next to the Río de la Plata. The sun was just beginning to rise, welcoming a new day.

From there I took my flight to Iguazu. The journey takes approximately one hour and fifty minutes, and as the plane headed north the landscape changed completely: from the vast urban scenery of Buenos Aires to the endless green forests of northern Argentina.

As we approached the province of Misiones, the ground below looked like a deep green carpet, clearly revealing the dense rainforest that surrounds the region.

Iguazu in one day from Buenos Aires

Arrival in Iguazu

By mid-morning we landed at Cataratas del Iguazú International Airport. The moment I stepped off the plane I could immediately feel the change in climate: warmer air, higher humidity, and that unmistakable scent of subtropical rainforest.

Our guide was already waiting to begin the excursion to Iguazú National Park, where the Argentine side of the falls is located.

This side offers the most complete experience. While the Brazilian side provides panoramic views of the waterfalls located mostly in Argentina, visiting the Argentine side allows you to walk inside the landscape itself, surrounded by waterfalls and rainforest. And it is absolutely magnificent.

The drive to the park takes only about twenty minutes. Along the way, our guide began explaining the region, the Misiones rainforest, and the incredible biodiversity of the area. By then we were already surrounded by dense jungle, and the experience promised to be unforgettable.

Iguazu Falls Ecological Train of the Jungle

First Contact with the Falls

Once inside the park there are three main walking circuits. Our guide suggested starting with Devil’s Throat, so we boarded the ecological train that runs through the forest.

The ride is short but very pleasant, slowly crossing the rainforest surrounded by giant trees and the sounds of tropical birds.

The Ecological Jungle Train in Iguazú National Park was introduced in the early 2000s as part of a project designed to improve visitor mobility without damaging the natural environment. This small tourist train replaced the old internal transportation system with vehicles that were more polluting. The train runs on liquefied gas, significantly reducing emissions and environmental impact while transporting visitors quietly through the rainforest. It connects the Visitor Center with the Cataratas and Devil’s Throat stations, providing easy access to the park’s main circuits.

The first stop was the station from which visitors walk toward the famous Devil’s Throat, the most impressive waterfall in the entire system.

Walking along the metal walkways over the river is an incredible experience. The water flows calmly around you, seemingly peaceful, yet in the distance you can already hear the deep roar of the gigantic waterfall waiting at the end of the trail.

As you get closer, the sound grows louder and louder. And suddenly… it appears.

The Devil’s Throat

The Devil’s Throat is simply breathtaking. An enormous mass of water plunges violently into a massive canyon filled with clouds of mist. The sound is deafening, and the sensation is difficult to describe. I felt a mixture of awe and respect for the power of nature.

Our guide explained that Devil’s Throat is the most emblematic waterfall of Iguazu Falls. It is a gigantic horseshoe-shaped cascade that concentrates the largest volume of water in the entire system. With approximately 80 meters in height and more than 150 meters in width, it is the point where the force of the Iguazu River reaches its most dramatic expression.

Standing at the viewpoint, the scene is overwhelming. The water crashes into a deep canyon constantly covered by mist rising from below. The roar of the falls is so intense that conversation becomes almost impossible, while the spray rising from the canyon quickly soaks everyone standing near the railing.

Devil’s Throat also marks the natural border between Argentina and Brazil and receives the majority of the Iguazu River’s flow before the water continues its journey toward the Paraná River.

During periods of heavy rainfall, the volume of water can exceed 10,000 cubic meters per second, transforming the spectacle into something even more dramatic.

Beyond its beauty, this area also has enormous ecological importance. The permanent humidity creates a microclimate that supports rich biodiversity. It is common to see birds such as the waterfall swifts flying directly into the mist and nesting along the canyon walls.

For many visitors, Devil’s Throat becomes the most unforgettable moment of their visit to Iguazu. It is here that you truly understand the magnitude of this natural wonder, which has been recognized as one of the New Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

Walking the Circuits

After that incredible first encounter, we continued exploring other sections of the park.

It is possible to walk back along a forest trail or take the train again. Since time is limited during a day tour, we decided to return by train.

Back at the main station we explored the Upper Circuit, which allows visitors to walk on platforms located directly above several waterfalls. From there the views are spectacular: water cascading in multiple layers, dense jungle surrounding the scenery, and the constant sound of rushing water everywhere.

Later we descended to the Lower Circuit, where the walkways bring you much closer to the falls. From some viewpoints you can actually feel the “rain” created by the waterfalls.

The park is full of life. During the walk we saw colorful butterflies, coatis walking among visitors, and tropical birds hidden in the trees. Occasionally monkeys can also be spotted moving through the forest near the trails.

The Gran Aventura

At one point our guide asked whether we had planned to add an additional experience called Gran Aventura, one of the most exciting excursions you can do at Iguazu Falls.

Fortunately, I had already reserved my spot in advance, since it is a very popular activity.

The experience begins with a ride in special 4×4 vehicles that travel through jungle trails deep inside the rainforest. During the drive the guide explains details about the flora and fauna of the park, pointing out giant trees, vines and different species living in this unique ecosystem.

After several minutes crossing the jungle, the road reaches the lower Iguazu River where the boats depart.

This is where the most thrilling part begins.

Visitors put on life jackets and board powerful inflatable boats specially designed to navigate the rapids. The boat moves upstream getting closer and closer to the waterfalls. As we approached, the sound of the water became louder and the excitement among the passengers grew.

Suddenly the captain directed the boat straight toward the base of one of the waterfalls.

Within seconds we were completely soaked by the massive curtain of water crashing down from above.

It was an intense, refreshing and incredibly fun experience.

The guide explained that this excursion is so popular because it allows visitors to truly feel the power of the waterfalls from up close, something you cannot experience from the walkways alone.

When the boat finally returned to the dock, I couldn’t stop smiling. If I had the chance, I would have done it again immediately.

Don’t miss it.

Lunch in the Park

Around midday we stopped for lunch inside the park. It was the perfect moment to relax and reflect on everything we had experienced so far.

There is a very good restaurant in the park, but there are also snack options for visitors who prefer a quick bite.

What impressed me the most was the scale of the place. This is not just one waterfall — it is hundreds of waterfalls spread across nearly three kilometers, with the extraordinary Devil’s Throat standing above all the others.

Every viewpoint offers a different perspective, and each trail reveals a new side of the landscape.
