Argentine Side

Best for: Close-up, immersive experience

- More trails and viewpoints: The Argentine side offers a larger network of walkways through the national park. The main waterfall circuits are the Upper Circuit and the Lower Circuit, while the Devil’s Throat Circuit is normally another major part of the visit. This allows you to experience the falls from several different angles and spend more time exploring the area.
- Diverse views: The walkways take you both above and close to several waterfalls, offering very different perspectives throughout the visit. On some sections, you can get close enough to feel the spray from the falls.
- Devil’s Throat: Under normal operating conditions, the Devil’s Throat Walkway leads visitors approximately 1.1 km across the upper Iguazú River to a viewpoint directly above the most powerful section of the falls. As of September 2026, however, the Argentine Devil’s Throat Circuit is temporarily closed, and sections of the walkway have been removed as a preventive measure due to forecasts of unusually high river levels.
- Wildlife: The longer network of trails and forested areas can provide more opportunities to spot local wildlife, including coatis, monkeys, and a wide variety of birds.
- Time needed: Plan a full day if you want to explore the main available circuits comfortably. The Upper Circuit is approximately 1.85 km, while the Lower Circuit is approximately 1.45 km.

Brazilian Side

Best for: Panoramic, wide-angle views

- Panoramic views: Because many of the waterfalls are located across the river on the Argentine side, the Brazilian side offers broad, panoramic views of the waterfall system, making it particularly good for understanding the scale of Iguazú Falls.
- Shorter visit: The traditional Brazilian visit is more compact. The main Cataratas Trail is approximately 1 km long, and the official park information estimates around two hours for the traditional visit, although allowing half a day gives you more time to enjoy the viewpoints.
- Accessibility: The park provides accessible internal transportation and access to several of its main viewpoints. However, the entire Cataratas Trail should not be considered completely flat or fully accessible, as some sections include stairs. Visitors with limited mobility can continue by internal transport to Porto Canoas, where a panoramic elevator provides access to the main viewing area and walkway.
- Great for photos: The Brazilian side is particularly suited to wide-angle photography, with viewpoints overlooking several waterfalls at once and impressive perspectives toward Devil’s Throat.
- Devil’s Throat: The Brazilian walkway provides one of the closest views of this section of the falls. After a temporary closure caused by unusually high river levels, the walkway reopened on September 15, 2026. Access can still be temporarily restricted whenever river conditions require it for safety.

The Argentine side offers a longer, more immersive experience with multiple trails and close-up views, while the Brazilian side gives you the broader panoramic perspective that is difficult to appreciate from Argentina alone.
If you’re short on time, choose the Argentine side if you prefer more walking, different circuits, and closer perspectives of individual waterfalls. Choose the Brazilian side if you want panoramic views of the entire waterfall system in a shorter visit.
