Why did Palo Rosa become threatened?

Its durable and attractive wood made the species valuable for construction, flooring, beams and furniture. Decades of intensive extraction reduced its populations across Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.

Research associated with CONICET notes that Aspidosperma polyneuron was among the Atlantic Forest trees most heavily exploited for the quality of its timber. Today, scientists study the factors limiting its regeneration and its ability to recover in degraded forests.
